Cleaving the Mountain

According to a Chinese fairytale (legend) a goddess fell in love with a mortal. This is always a no-no in every culture. This goddess had a magic lotus lantern that helped her be with this mortal. Together they had a son Chen Xiang. The goddess is kidnapped and imprisoned in Hua Shan, and the lotus lantern is stolen, but Chen Xiang takes an ax and cuts open the mountain freeing his mother.

Hua Shan Discoveries

We made it to the North Peak at around 1,000 meters, and in the distance we could see the hanging buildings of the West Peak.

We climb over 1000 meters, and found this quiet pagoda off the main path.

I looked over the edge of the mountain near the pagoda I noticed these old carved steps. These steps could easily be up to 2,000 years old.
